Supporting Two New Health Centers in Lower Northeast

Image
Update Petition Counts:  1310 as of 4/7/2024        Philadelphia’s City Health Centers offer very low-cost health care to all residents of the city but are overcrowded. Public Health Center 10 on Cottman Avenue is the only city health center serving the entire Northeast so it can take up to a year for a new appointment.      Two new Health Centers are included in the Philadelphia City budget in the lower Northeast, one at the Frankford Transportation Center (Bridge and Pratt) and one at the old Friends Hospital on Roosevelt Blvd near Langdon St. Together, they will provide care for over 46,000 patients a year, mostly at the Friends site.    Despite the critical need for more capacity for City Health Centers , t here is opposition to the Health Center at the Friends Hospital site. The opposition can put a five years delay for the City to locate another suitable site.      Therefore, community, religious, labor, immigrant a...

In February 2024, Esperanza Immigration Legal Services (EILS) and the Northeast Philadelphia Chinese Association (NEPCA) entered into a partnership to make EILS legal services available to the Chinese community.  NEPCA will help promote EILS legal services to its WeChat network.  In the early phase, Chinese clients would need to be able to communicate in English to get services. We anticipate that Chinese language services will be more available in the future as demand builds up.  EILS has been serving the Spanish community for many years. We are grateful to EILS for extending its services to the Chinese community.  NEPCA and EILS are looking forward to building a better community together! Cheer!
